How Do Appalachian Energy Contractors Actually Manage Prequalification?

Original illustration created for Shale Markets.
If you run safety or compliance for an oil, gas or energy contractor, you already know the drill. Operators want you on ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce or some combination of them. Each platform has its own requirements, its own scoring, and its own idea of what counts as current. Those requirements change, and your crew's training records have to keep up.
I'm a software consultant and the publisher of Shale Markets, and I'm writing an article about how this works in practice for contractors in the Marcellus and Utica region. Not how the platforms describe it, but how it really gets done day to day.
## What I'm trying to learn
I'm interested in the real picture, including:
- Who in your company owns prequalification, and how much of their week it takes
- What you use to keep worker records current: spreadsheets, binders, software, a consultant, or something else
- What happens when something expires or a requirement changes
- How juggling more than one platform or operator actually goes
- Where pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) fits alongside all of it
I'm not interested in anyone's trade secrets, and I won't ask about drug or alcohol testing or medical information.
## Who I'd like to hear from
I'm looking for people on the contractor side, such as safety managers, compliance coordinators, HR or administrative staff, and owners who handle this themselves. Your company should be on at least one of these platforms, and ideally have 10 or more field employees.
## What's involved
An email questionnaire: eight short questions you answer in your own words, whenever you have a few minutes. Most people finish in 10 to 15 minutes.
I'll ask about specific recent experiences rather than opinions in general. Your name and your company's name will stay anonymous unless you tell me otherwise. I'm not selling anything, and this isn't a sales call.
## What you get
I'll publish the findings here on Shale Markets, and everyone who takes part will get the article first. My goal is a clear picture of what's working and what isn't, in the words of the people doing the work.
## How to take part
Email me at [email protected], message me on LinkedIn at [linkedin.com/in/rpader](https://www.linkedin.com/in/rpader), or reply in the [Global Oil & Gas News group](https://www.linkedin.com/groups/4760354/). Tell me your role and which platforms you're on, and I'll send the questions right back.
Thanks for your time, and for the work you do keeping crews qualified and on the job.
